at Clearwater Beach an Academy Success The 10th Annual AAHB Scientific Meeting was held February 7-10, 2010 at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort in Clearwater Beach, Florida. With the theme, "Implementation Science: Translating Evidence-Based Health Behavior Research to Practice", it was one of the largest attended meetings of the Academy (in spite of the blizzard in the Northeast) and considered by many attendees as one of the best programs to date. Organized by Dr. Rita Debate, this year's program included nationally and internationally recognized researchers who presented their work on innovative intervention approaches, design and methods, and translational issues related to translating evidence-based health behavior research topractice. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Larry Green. For copies of the speaker presentations, click here (coming soon). In addition to the state-of-the-art presentations, two well-received professional workshops were conducted, one by Dr. Guy Parcel on Intervention Mapping and by Drs. Lisa Klesges and Karen Coleman on " RE-AIM: The Power of a Population Approach". For students and junior faculty attendees, two luncheon workshops were offered on grant writing with experts from federal agencies and foundations and universities providing tips and guidance on the new federal guidelines.
Dr. David Seal was installed as the new Academy President, taking over the reigns from Dr. Dennis Thombs who was applauded for navigating the Academy through a transitional year and preparing the organization for a successful second decade. Last, but certainly not least, a number of Academy awards were presented, including the 2010 AAHB Research Laureate Award to Dr. Kenneth McLeroy, the Judy Black Award to Dr. Yan Hong, presentation of new Academy Fellows (Drs. John Clapp, Gary Kreps, Ray Merrill, and Lorraine Wallace), and outstanding research poster awards to Dr. Dong-Chul Seo and Ms. Jessica Magidson and their colleagues, as well as a number of Posters of Distinction Awards.
