Call for Abstracts

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS IS NOW CLOSED

Please consider submitting an abstract for a presentation during the late breaking poster session at the 2010 meeting in Clearwater Beach, Florida.  AAHB will accept submissions until November 27, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.  Non-members are encouraged to submit abstracts.  Authors will be notified of the disposition of their submissions by December 16,2009.

To submit an abstract for this year's meeting: NOW CLOSED

If your abstract is accepted, it is expected that you or a co-author will register for the conference and be present for the session.

We are particularly interested in abstracts describing original health behavior and health promotion research, particularly those related to our theme for this year's conference: Implementation Science - Translating Evidence-Based Health Behavior Research to Practice - although conceptual abstracts are also welcome.

If you have any questions about the abstract submission or review process, please contact the Research Review Committee Chair, Dr. E. Lisako J. McKyer at 979-845-9280 or at eljmckyer@tamu.edu

We hope you will submit an abstract and attend the meeting!

Poster Awards

Purpose:
These awards are designed to recognize innovative research in health behavior.

Submission Guidelines:
All posters submitted by the September 25th deadline and accepted for presentation at the annual conference will be eligible for the award. Presenters do NOT have to request that their posters be included.

Additional eligibility criteria:

  • An electronic copy of the poster MUST be submitted to Joanne Sommers by January 31, 2010.
  • The FIRST author MUST be present at their poster during their assigned session.
  • Late breaker abstracts are NOT eligible for the poster awards

There are two categories of poster awards: (1) Professional and (2) Student. All submissions by researchers currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program are eligible for the student award.

The Award Winners:

(one professional researcher and one student)

Winners will be announced Wednesday morning at the closing session of the conference, and a photo will be taken for the academy website and newsletter. The winners will receive a framed certificate. The author(s) of the award winning posters also will be invited to submit their winning abstract for publication in the American Journal of Health Behavior.

Consider Applying for the Judy Black Early Research Award

The Judy K. Black Early Career Research Award of the American Academy of Health Behavior (AAHB) recognizes early-career health behavior research that is innovative and rigorous, and makes an important contribution to science or practice. To be eligible for award consideration individuals must:

  • Be considered early in career, i.e., < 5 years postdoctoral or other terminal degree (doctoral degree not required) as of December 15th of the year in which the submission is made.
  • Submit an abstract that clearly reflects data-based, meta-analytic, or theory development research related to health behavior that will be adjudicated as part of the conference "Call for Abstracts" process.
  • Identify themselves on the abstract submission form as an applicant for the Judy K. Black Early Career Research Award.
  • Be the lead author on the study submitted as part of the abstract process for award consideration, though not necessarily the sole author.
  • Provide a full paper, complete with any relevant tables, figures, and references, at the time of the abstract submission.

The award will be based on the paper's significance, innovativeness, methodological rigor, and contribution to health behavior research or potential for application in practice. The review process will be completed by November 30th prior to the subsequent year's scientific conference, and the recipient will be notified of the honor before December 15th. If a recipient is selected, she or he will have his or her AAHB registration fee waived for that year's scientific conference, and will be recognized at the scientific meeting with a plaque and letter of commendation from the AAHB president. The award recipient must attend the award ceremony and present the poster during the conference.
